Mr. Paolo Vairo

Pianist Paolo Vairo was born in Como, Italy in 1974. He has already acquired great recognition from audiences and music critics both in Italy and abroad as a musician of uncommon brilliance and sensitivity. His piano repertoire contains a wide range of styles from Baroque to Contemporary in which he shows a high level of understanding the interpretation of the authors’ wit, together with outstanding virtuosity and praiseworthy lyricism. He regularly tours in Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, France, United Kingdom, Russia and the United States both performing in recital and as soloist with orchestra. His Italian appearances include performances in Aosta, Avellino, Bari, Brindisi, Bologna, Como, Firenze, Merano, Milano, Padova, Pescara, Prato, Roma, Sassari, Savona, Siena, Siracusa, Torino, Udine, Venezia, Verona and Voghera. Other significant engagements have included concerts at Teatro Puccini in Merano, Teatro Alfieri in Torino, Teatro Sociale in Como, Teatro delle Erbe in Milano at the invitation of “Società dei Concerti, and the Sala Verdi of Parma Conservatory. All appearances were met with unanimous critical acclaim. Internationally, Mr. Vairo performed in Mendrisio and Lugano (Switzerland), Mayrhofen and Innsbruck (Austria), Bad Wiessee, Bad Tölz, Lenggries, Landshut, Murnau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Rotenburg and Munich (Germany) where he performed several recitals at the prestigious Gasteig Hall.

Mr. Vairo performed as soloist with numerous orchestras including the Münchener Symphonikern at the world-renowned Herkulessaal der Residenz in Munich. He was also invited to participate in a concert series celebrating the music of Beethoven in Aosta.

He holds a Terminal Degree in Piano Performance from Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan, Italy. In the fall of 2001 he moved to the United States where he obtained a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at Temple University in Philadelphia, studying under the guidance of Professor Harvey Wedeen. He received a full tuition scholarship and was awarded a Teaching Assistantship for the duration of his academic career. Since 2005 he has been selected for inclusion in the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour Roster.

Noteworthy performances from his recent concert activity included an all-Chopin program for the Chopin Society in Lazienki Park (Warsaw) and solo recitals in other European music centers (Italy, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and France) including Como, Munich, Biddenham, Bedford, Prague, and Carcassonne. Performances in the United States included the Academy of Music Ballroom, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Darlington Arts Center, Dante Hall in Atlantic City, Sussex Bank Theater, for the “Russian Stage” in Atlanta and for the Steinway Piano Group Series at Granite Farms Estates. His 2012 concert schedule included a European summer tour to Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Austria, Poland and Russia. Mr. Vairo has dedicated himself to the piano literature of Robert Schumann and his efforts have led to a large-scale project, which has culminated into a series of solo and lecture recitals. Between 2006 and 2010 (to celebrate the 150 th anniversary of Schumann’s death and the 200th anniversary of his birth) Mr. Vairo had been performing and lecturing on Schumann’s works. Since 2008 he was invited every year to perform a series of recitals, lecture-recitals in Vancouver, BC, Canada. In November 2010, Mr. Vairo inaugurated the newly refurbished grand piano for the Community College of Philadelphia’s concert series with an All-Schumann program. The performance is currently being broadcast in a two part series on channel 53 and includes an interview about the program with Mr. Vairo interspersed with recital footage. Another performance is also being broadcast, which features Mr. Vairo as soloist with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia in a performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto, K.466. In July, Mr. Vairo traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia at the invitation of the Music Encore Arts International to perform and present master classes at the Tzar’s Village Music Festival.

In November 2012 Mr. Vairo was engaged in his first tour in Taiwan (Taipei National Concert Hall, Kaohsiung Concert Hall and Hualien) and Hong Kong (Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Institute of Education, Hong Kong Professional Piano Education Academy and Melos Music Centre) where he presented a successful series of solo recitals, lecture-recitals, master classes and piano workshops. Re-engagements during the month of August 2013 in Hong Kong followed and a new concert tour in Taiwan in the Spring 2014 is currently being organized.

In addition to concertizing, Mr. Vairo is on faculty at Darlington Arts Center, Community College of Philadelphia and Montgomery County Community College where he teaches piano, music theory and music history. He is also the Artistic and Programming Co-Director of the Villa Carlotta Concert Series in Lake Como, Italy, which just celebrated its 22nd year of brilliant activity.
